Vacation home for a Chicago collector of contemporary and modern art and modernist (mostly European) furniture and industrial design.
Located at the base of Aspen Mountain, this existing townhouse was completely renovated with a design program to simplify the architectural details, lighten the space, and establish a strong but neutral backdrop for the client's art and design collection.
Art was chosen for its relation to Aspen and the mountains. It includes posters by modernist Swiss graphic designers and a bas relief by Herbert Bayer. The client's sophisticated design collection was expanded and edited to feature examples of contemporary-production and vintage works, including pieces by Ettore Sottsass, Maarten van Severen, Carlo Forcolini and Shiro Kuramata.
